The famous Zlatar white cheese is a protected brand of Nova Varoš area that is impossible to fake.

In order to promote the brand, a group of enthusiasts founded a competition in 1997 that was attended by local white cheese producers. The idea was to organize a festival according to traditional countryside fairs. That is when it was named “Sirijada” (Cheese Festival).
